Zhu Yuexiang, a Jiaxing native, has donated more than 8,000 books over the past 39 years to his old school, local media reported on March 3.

He explained that he was too poor to buy books and dropped out after middle school. The donations are to avoid the same thing happen to other children.

In 1984, twenty-something Zhu spent 70 yuan ($11.08) buying nearly 100 books and stationery for students at then Miaoyunqiao Primary School, which is now the Bazi campus of Panxi Primary School, and he has continued donating for the past 39 years.
