As the Dragon Boat Festival draws nearer, Wuzhen, an ancient town in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, will offer various activities to tourists about folk customs during the festival from June 12 to 14, local media reported.

The activities will include zongzi-making competitions, perfume satchel making, and five-cereal painting making, among others.

Visitors may also encounter people peddling Dragon Boat Festival delicacies and items, such as bean paste cake, cucumber, tiger-head shoes, and five-color threads.

Wuzhen locals usually smoke with Chinese herbs, make zongzi, eat yellow food, including cucumber, yellow croaker, ricefield eel, and salted duck egg, as well as hang sweet sedge and folium artemisiae argyi at the entrance of each household during the festival.

The Chinese character Wang, signifying the tiger in China, is usually written on the foreheads of local children, who also wear tiger-shaped hats and shoes, as well as clothes printed with centipedes to ward off bad luck and disease.
