China has unveiled its lineup for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, with five competitors from Zhejiang province selected, setting a new provincial record for participation at a single Winter Olympic Games.
The athletes from Zhejiang are Wang Yu, Ye Jielong, Lin Qinwei, Liang Yuxin, and Weng Yangning.
Lin, 26, from Wenzhou, is one of the most notable names. In January 2025, Lin and his teammate, Zhao Dan, made history by winning China's first-ever World Cup title in the skeleton mixed team race at the IBSF World Cup in Winterberg, Germany.
Nineteen-year-old Liang, a fellow skeleton athlete from Shaoxing, will make her Olympic debut after gaining experience at major international competitions, including the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
In bobsleigh, Wang, 26, also from Shaoxing, has become a core member of China's women's bobsleigh team.
Ye, born in Jinhua in 2000, brings Olympic experience to the group. The bobsleigh athlete competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
The Chinese delegation also features ski jumping athlete Weng, 20, from Ningbo. A former boxer who transferred to ski jumping in 2019, she won Zhejiang's first gold medal at China's 14th National Winter Games and claimed the women's individual normal hill title in the youth category. Milano Cortina 2026 will mark her first appearance at the Winter Olympics.
The 286-member Chinese delegation will compete in 91 of the total 116 medal events across 16 sports disciplines at the Games. The Games are scheduled to open in northern Italy on Feb 6, with the second-week program overlapping with the Spring Festival holiday in China.
