Shaoxing is developing new cultural tourism experiences that highlight the lifestyle traditions of Jiangnan, the southern regions of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and aims to attract more visitors from Singapore.
According to the recently released Report on Inbound Tourism Preferences of Southeast Asian Tourists, Shaoxing ranks among the top three most anticipated Jiangnan cities, underscoring rising interest in the city's lifestyle-focused travel products.
Local cultural and tourism authorities are refining products that cater to Singaporean travelers' preference for slow travel — an immersive and lifestyle-focused experience. Homestays converted from Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) courtyards in the Hometown of calligrapher Wang Xizhi allow visitors to try Song era (960-1279) inspired hairpin styling and participate in guided calligraphy sessions.
Early morning visits to Bazi Bridge offer views of ancient stone spans in misty light, a scene favored by photography enthusiasts. Restaurants, including Xunbaoji Zhuangyuan Building, are promoting Jiangnan-style tasting menus that feature regional dishes such as Shaoxing Sanxian (a stew with three fresh ingredients) and braised pork with preserved vegetables served with local rice wine. The approach blends culinary highlights with aesthetics shaped by the region’s rich heritage.
A newly launched 48-hour itinerary combines local cuisine, traditional scenery, and cultural activities. Highlights include the Xixiaolu Morning Market, photography spots near Tishan Bridge, and an evening performance in Shen Garden. Visitors can also admire the mirror-like views at Angsang Lake, experience the winding stream tradition at Lanting, and take home a folding fan with onsite calligraphy.
The itinerary features recommended photo spots and lesser-known cultural sites that appeal to independent travelers. With growing demand for lifestyle-focused journeys, Shaoxing aims to strengthen its position as a leading Jiangnan destination for visitors from Singapore.
