New mushroom cultivation model in Jinhua boosts common prosperity

In the early morning mist of Jincun village in Wuyi county, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, rows of mushroom greenhouses glistened in the dawn light on Dec 4. Inside, farmer Xu Yunxian carefully harvested plump shiitake mushrooms, which symbolize hope for increased income. This is part of Jinhua's efforts to achieve common prosperity.

"Most of us had never grown shiitake mushrooms before," Xu said at a local cultivation base. "Thanks to the companies' technical guidance, we learned the process."

This success is attributed to Wuyi's "village-enterprise cooperation" model, where companies provide quality mushroom sticks and technical support. The village handles land transfers and farmer organization, allowing farmers to focus on cultivation to earn a stable income.

This collaborative effort changes the traditional farming model of "fighting alone" and addresses challenges like low efficiency and technical gaps.

Zhu Hangjun, manager of the cultivation base, said, "At present, our base covers an area of about 30 mu (two hectares) and includes over 30 households, with 42 mushroom greenhouses."

The favorable environment and automated irrigation contribute to each mushroom stick yielding 0.65 to 0.75 kilograms, with an annual total reaching 200,000 kg. Branded under Wuyi Innovative Edible Mushroom Co's "Mu Zhi Zhen", the mushrooms are sold through e-commerce, retail, and export channels.

"The standardization of technical standards and brand sales has not only improved production efficiency but also created jobs for farmers, enabling them to achieve stable income growth," added Zhu, revealing plans to build new bases in other areas so that more farmers can benefit from the mushroom industry.
