International students from the College of International Culture and Social Development of Zhejiang Normal University recently experienced the surrounding culture and preparatory processes of salty tangyuan, or glutinous rice balls, in a cultural exchange organized by the Xinshi Subdistrict Community Service Station in Wucheng district, Jinhua, Zhejiang province.

Volunteers introduced Jinhua's salty glutinous rice balls to the students. "The flour is made from glutinous rice soaked for several days and then sun-dried during the peak summer heat, which is crucial for the taste. The 'little tails' on the salty balls help distinguish them from sweet ones," a volunteer explained.

Following the demonstration, volunteers guided international students through the hands-on process of making savory tangyuan. The students eagerly participated in each step, from mixing and kneading the dough to shaping the skins and wrapping the fillings.
