Zisun tea from Changxing county, Huzhou, Zhejiang province, won a grand gold prize at the 2024 World Green Tea Contest, claiming the 1st spot in Zhejiang and 7th globally.

Hosted by the World Green Tea Association, the contest, held every three years, represents the pinnacle in the tea industry, known as the "Tea Oscars".

The contest, held in Japan on Aug 21 and 22 this year, saw 186 tea samples from seven countries and regions rigorously evaluated, resulting in 20 grand gold prizes, 36 gold prizes, and one packaging prize. Zisun tea from Changxing Datang Tribute Tea Park Culture Development Co stood out.

Dating back over 1,200 years, Zisun tea served as a tribute tea in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), recommended by Tea Sage Lu Yu to the royal court. The name Zisun means "purple bamboo shoot" in Chinese. It is so called because the unprocessed tea leaf is partially purple and its slim, narrow shape resembles that of a bamboo shoot.

Datang Tribute Tea Park was China's first royal tea factory, established in 770 AD. After over 1,200 years, it was rebuilt and still preserves the production techniques of Zisun tea to this day.

Crafted from fresh leaves and processed through a series of intricate steps, the tea retains its natural essence, resembling orchids and boasting a flowery, herb-like smell, making it a true testament to China's tea heritage.
