In a recent highlight for the city's badminton scene, Zhang Zhijie, from Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, triumphed in the men's singles category, clinching gold at the 2024 Dutch Junior Badminton International Grand Prix. Held from Feb 28 to March 3 in Haarlem, Netherlands, the event drew emerging talents from across the globe.

In a thrilling final, Zhang overcame his opponent with scores of 21-10, 11-21, and 21-13, displaying both mental resilience and unwavering determination.

This victory not only marks a significant milestone for Zhang but also reflects positively on China's burgeoning badminton talent pool. With promising prospects ahead, Zhang's success signals a bright future for Chinese badminton on the international stage.

Born in 2007, Zhang's badminton journey began in kindergarten, under the guidance of coach Li Wei from Fucheng Primary School. His exceptional talent led him to the Jiaxing Youth Sports School and later onto the Zhejiang provincial team.

Over the years, Zhang has showcased remarkable progress, claiming titles such as the 2022 National U-Series Badminton Competition U15-17 Finals champion and the 2023 National Youth Badminton Championship Group B men's singles winner. His victory at the 2023 BWF World Junior Championships further solidifies his position as a rising star in the sport.
