Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province held a promotional event in Tokyo on May 9.

The event, called "Shaoxing wine travels around the world", was hosted by the municipal government of Shaoxing to showcase the city's culture and tourism attractions, including its famous yellow rice wine.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, in his speech at the event, said that he gladly accepted the invitation to attend because he is particularly fond of Shaoxing and its yellow rice wine.

Many Japanese people, like him, are partial to Shaoxing wine. Shaoxing wine and Japanese sake have many similar brewing methods and can take inspiration from each other, he said.

He Junjie, deputy director of the Information Office of the Shaoxing Municipal People's Government, gave a speech introducing Shaoxing as a heavy historical and cultural book, a human biography, and a landscape picture book.

He recommended five cultural attractions in Shaoxing that fuse Shaoxing and Japanese culture, including yellow rice wine and calligraphy, and invited Japanese tourists to visit.
