David Alan Chipperfield, urban architect, urban planner and activist, won the Pritzker Architecture Award, which is recognized as the highest honor in the architecture industry, in 2023.

As the first building in Jiaxing to be built by a Pritzker Prize winner, the Silo Art Center is a community-type public facility that is rare among Chippfield's works.

The Silo Art Center retains the silos and granaries of the previous century, and Chipperfield's renovation transformed them into a place of culture and art.

Meticulously designed buildings and open squares will be used for sports, culture and art.

"In the past we tended to tear down old houses, but reusing buildings is more sustainable, creates a continuity of place and helps preserve history. These buildings, although no longer serving their original purpose, were historically used for storage, which connects them to the past in a unique way," said Chipperfield when talking about the significance of his design.
