Zhejiang Gu Yue Long Shan Shaoxing Wine Co held its jar-sealing ceremony at the 300-year-old Jianhu Lake Winery in Shaoxing on Feb 21.
The ceremony saw Sun Aibao, chairman of Shaoxing Huangjiu Group, extoll the virtues of the traditional brewing method. Jar-sealing is not just a craft, he explained, but a cultural practice that holds within it a jar of fine wine, a beautiful memory, an emotion, and a blessing.
Yellow rice wine produced at the winery is the designated product for the upcoming Asian Games, which will commence on September 23.
China's national volleyball team, currently in training, has thanked the town’s leading Huangjiu brand for supporting youth volleyball. The team's training, which is being overseen by Yu Juemin, the former head coach of the national women's volleyball team, is sponsored by Zhejiang Gu Yue Long Shan Shaoxing Wine Co.
Zeng Jieya, a member of the national team, expressed her gratitude in a video message, saying, "Gu Yue Long Shan not only supports us but also supports Chinese volleyball and reserves more talent for the country. I hope the Hangzhou Asian Games are successful and Gu Yue Long Shan becomes world-famous."
Yellow rice wine has been produced in Shaoxing since the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). Shaoxing’s yellow rice wine is exported to more than 40 countries and regions, and the brewing technique was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item in 2006.
