Zhejiang's agricultural sector up 3.4% in 2022

In 2022, Zhejiang's agricultural sector grew steadily, with the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery reaching 375.6 billion yuan ($55.33 billion), a year-on-year growth of 3.4 percent, according to the Provincial Bureau of Statistics.

In the past year, the province’s grain production remained stable while vegetable production increased.

The total area sown with grain increased by 1.4 percent year-on-year to 15.31 million mu (1.02 million hectares) and total output stabilized at 6.21 million tons. Early rice covered an area of 2.75 million mu and saw a yield of 731,000 tons, up by 10.5 percent and 11.9 percent, respectively, while autumn rice was grown over an area of 10.86 million mu, down by 2 percent, and its output decreased by 3.1 percent to 4.78 million tons.

Meanwhile, the total area sown with vegetable and edible mushrooms in the province expanded to 10.06 million mu, up by 1 percent. Total output increased by 2.2 percent to 19.77 million tons.

The output of Zhejiang’s animal husbandry industry saw a rapid increase last year. About 8.51 million hogs were supplied to the market, an increase of 9.9 percent over the previous year. The number of live hogs and breeding sows increased by 0.7 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively.

Over the past 12 months, the province produced 6.48 million tons of aquatic products, an increase of 3.6 percent over the previous year. Marine aquaculture saw an output of 1.52 million tons, up by 9 percent, while freshwater aquaculture reached 1.31 million tons, up by 4 percent.
