The eighth Chinese Parental Love and Filial Piety Cultural Festival was held in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on Aug 13.

Ten role models (individuals or groups) for parental love and filial piety were honored this year. They include Zhang Xiping, a blind man who has supported his mother and adopted daughter by selling eggs for over 30 years, Fang Shugong, a spiritual caregiver for dying elderly, and Red Apple Charity, a charitable organization that provides assistance to the young children who parents are in prison.

A series of new activities will be held this year, including a themed bus ride encouraging care for the elderly, a exhibition of comic works by Cai Zhizhong, a popular cartoonist from Taiwan, and a forum themed on parental love and filial piety.

"Parental love and filial piety are the essence of excellent traditional Chinese culture and also the root for the country's cultural legacy," according to Qi Xuchun, vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

The Chinese Parental Love and Filial Piety Cultural Festival has been held for eight years since 2015. Eighty role models have been honored and more than 10 celebrities have been awarded the title of ambassadors for the culture of parental love and filial piety.
