Cane shoots donated by Taizhou's Huangyan district to Indonesia in late June have been growing well and are expected to hit local markets in mid-October, local media reported.

Huangyan, along with the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, has also offered plantation guidance online to their Indonesian counterparts. 

The donated cane shoots have two varieties – early-maturing and medium-and-late-maturing, thus making it possible for them to enter the market at different times of the year.

Xu Mingfei, associate researcher of the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that the two varieties of cane shoots are naturally grown and are of high quality.

Huangyan is renowned for producing cane shoots. The vegetable's plantation area in the district currently spans more than 20,000 mu (1,333.3 hectares).

Cane shoots produced in Guan'ao village, Beiyang town, Huangyan once again took home the gold award at the 2021 Zhejiang Provincial Agricultural Expo, which was recently held online.

In 2012, Beiyang Water Cane Shoots, a trademark for the cane shoots produced in the area, was registered. The branded cane shoots gained huge popularity among consumers upon hitting the market due to their tenderness and taste.
