Zhoushan's foreign trade up 31.4% in Jan-April

The foreign trade of Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province jumped 31.4 percent year-on-year to 98.33 billion yuan ($14.71 billion) in the first four months of this year, according to Zhoushan Customs.

The exports expanded 20.7 percent year-on-year to 33.24 billion yuan while imports grew 37.6 percent year-on-year to 165.09 billion yuan.

Its foreign trade, exports and imports values accounted for 6.9 percent, 3.2 percent, and 17.1 percent of the provincial totals respectively during the same period.

In April alone, the foreign trade of the city increased 19.7 percent year-on-year to 25.27 billion yuan. The exports expanded 22 percent year-on-year to 9 billion yuan while imports grew 18.4 percent year-on-year to 16.27 billion yuan.

The imports and exports by private companies increased 19.6 percent year-on-year while that of foreign-invested companies surged 31.6 percent year-on-year in the same month.

Zhoushan saw 38.6 percent, 250 percent, and 860 percent year-on-year increases in trade with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Pakistan in April. Its trade with Africa grew 18.4 percent year-on-year in the same month.

In addition, the city exported 1.168 million metric tons of petroleum products and imported 1.588 million tons of iron ore in April.
