More than 14,000 companies in Zhili town, a national manufacturing hub for childrenswear, recently resumed operations after a short-term suspension due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The town in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province reported a COVID-19 case on March 7, and this led to the China (Zhili) Childrenswear City and the Zhili International Textile City suspending operations to prevent the spread of the virus.
As of 2:00 pm on March 10, Zhili had implemented three rounds of nucleic acid testing, with more than 300,000 samples taken. All tests returned negative.
Due to the effective control measures, most local childrenswear enterprises have already restarted operations and began preparing for the upcoming sales peak in the summer.
According to Yang Ji, a livestreaming host for a local childrenswear company, summer wear will be in great demand.
Zhili is home to more than 20,000 market entities in the children's clothing sector, accounting for 60 percent of the domestic market share. Among them, more than 8,000 companies have been selling childrenswear via e-commerce platforms.
The local government plans to offer subsidies worth 60 million yuan ($9.23 million) this year to help companies weather difficulties caused by the epidemic, a local official said.
