Jiaxing Port in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, has been ranked 89th in the world in terms of container throughput, two places higher than last year, on a list of the world's top 100 container ports recently published by Lloyd's List.

Jiaxing Port is the only sea port in the north of Hangzhou Bay in Zhejiang. With 71.1 kilometers of natural coastline, the port houses three port areas - Dushan, Zhapu and Haiyan - and features sea-river combined transportation.

Statistics show that in 2020, Jiaxing Port handled 117 million metric tons of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 7.34 percent, including 14.83 million tons of foreign trade cargo and 1.96 million twenty-feet equivalent units.

The Zhapu port area delivered 1.76 million TEUs in the same year, a year-on-year increase of 6.15 percent, including 362,600 TEUs via sea-river combined transportation.

Jiaxing Port has taken measures to develop container businesses in recent years by integrating resources and optimizing functions.

Currently, Jiaxing Port has three near-sea routes to Japan, Vietnam and Russia, and 19 inland river routes extending to northern, central, and western Zhejiang as well as places outside the province.

Lloyd's List is a London-based world-leading source of news, analysis, and data related to the shipping industry.

Twenty-seven Chinese ports made the list. Aside from second placed Singapore Port, the rest of the top five spots were occupied by Chinese ports, namely Shanghai Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, Shenzhen Port, and Guangzhou Port.
