Schott Tubing (Zhejiang) Co Ltd, a subsidiary of German specialty glass and glass-ceramics manufacturer and supplier Schott, is located in the hardware technology industrial park in Jinyun county, Lishui, Zhejiang province. The enterprise mainly produces the world's top neutral borosilicate pharmaceutical glass for vaccines and other pharmaceutical packaging.

Recently, 25 German experts from Schott's headquarters pushed aside all obstacles and difficulties, and arrived in Jinyun to install production lines for the subsidiary.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these experts' trip to China encountered many twists and turns. Under the joint coordination of the county government and the industrial park's management committee, the German experts finally set out on June 30.

Currently, there are three approved clinical COVID-19 vaccine research projects in China, and the approved packaging types are all neutral borosilicate medical glass from Schott. The company's plant in Jinyun is one of the main suppliers of vaccine packaging raw materials.

If the trip was canceled, the whole project would have been delayed for at least three months, according to Wang Heng, senior human resources manager of Schott Zhejiang. "The delay would have caused incalculable losses," Wang said.

Now, the quarantine period has ended, and the experts have devoted themselves to the front-line work with greater enthusiasm. "Thanks to the government for all the help and support we have received, including the flight problems," said Frank Lenzen, technical director of the Schott China tube project.
