A group of expatriates spent June 24 learning how to make perfume sachets in the Moon River Historic District, Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, according to local media.

Wearing perfume sachets is a tradition across much of China during the Dragon Boat Festival - which this year falls on June 25 - to drive off evil spirits and pray for good health and safety.

It was a unique experience for Kirill Petrov, vice-consul of the consulate general of Russia in Shanghai, to see lots of perfume sachets of various shapes hanging along an ancient stone path, with the best of them being selected by visitors and local residents.

"It's my first time making a sachet and it's quite interesting," said Petrov, who made the sachet under the guidance of a skilled local sachet maker.

This holiday experience in Jiaxing helped Petrov and other participating expatriates see the beautiful culture of China.

There are more than 1,300 perfume sachets exhibited along the path. These have been solicited by the Jiaxing Women's Federation over the past few months through the organization of perfume sachet making training days and competitions.
