Zhejiang province recently announced a plan to develop its high-tech zones.

According to the plan, the province aims to build at least 11 national high-tech zones by 2022 which rank among the top 50 percent in China.

Particular attention will be paid to the national high-tech zones in Hangzhou and Ningbo, which the province hopes to build into world-class development zones.

The zones are expected to generate total revenue of 5 trillion yuan ($717.07 billion) by 2022. The province also aims to boost the ratio of R&D expenditures in its regional GDP from 6.82 percent in 2018 to 8 percent by 2022, and increase the number of high-tech companies from 5,121 in 2018 to 10,000 in 2022.

To achieve these goals, the Zhejiang government will develop three pillar industries in each zone, support the establishment of high-tech companies, and offer financial incentives to key R&D projects to encourage innovation.

Major innovation platforms and labs will also be introduced to the zones, as well as a variety of skilled workers who will enjoy benefits in housing, schooling for their children, and other aspects.
