A workshop aiming to showcase the traditional culture of East China's Zhejiang province and provide opportunities for foreigners to experience the region's folk arts and crafts was held in Madrid, Spain on July 2-4.

The activities staged at the workshop -- including embroidery, celadon, fans and clay figurines from Zhejiang -- demonstrated to Spanish participants the province's long history in arts and crafts and its rich culture.

Locals tried their hands at doing embroidery, practicing martial arts, shaping clay into figurines and pots, and painting on fans under the guidance of Zhejiang craftspeople.

Yao Yongbin, director of the China Culture Center in Madrid, said Zhejiang has abundant beautiful natural landscape and deep colorful cultural influences from which craftsmen can draw inspiration.

The workshop showcased typical cultural influences common to the province, and had made Chinese culture more accessible and appealing to a European audience, according to Yao.
