The health commission of Zhejiang province, along with AliHealth and Alipay, two affiliates of the tech giant Alibaba, launched the country's first online platform of hospitals in Hangzhou on Jan 22 to make healthcare services more convenient for the public.

The platform, with the two main functions of service and supervision, has included some leading hospitals in the province such as the Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital and the first and second affiliated hospitals of Zhejiang University, and also a batch of grassroots medical organizations.

Positioned as an integrated and sharing platform for medical resources, it allows people to consult doctors, get prescriptions for minor and chronic diseases, pay medical fees and even find general practitioners for their families through the internet.

In addition to services, the platform also enables the health commission to supervise the diagnosis and treatment practices of medical organizations and workers as the information of them will be registered and authenticated, and their interactions with patients will be recorded.

An official from Zhejiang's health commission said the platform is a further step to develop smart healthcare and an important measure to improve the medical conditions in the province.

According to the plan, there will be more than 50 hospitals and medical institutions at all levels on the platform by the end of 2019.
