The Xiangshan-Yueqing section of a coastal highway opened to traffic on Jan 16, marking a huge step to the full completion of the strategic transportation construction project in Zhejiang.

With an investment of 54.3 billion yuan ($8.02 billion), the 225-kilometer highway section starts from Xiangshan county of Ningbo and ends at Yueqing in Wenzhou. With three new sea-crossing bridges, it passes by the cities of Ningbo, Taizhou and Wenzhou and is expected to facilitate the connections between coastal areas in Zhejiang.

In the future, the highway is expected to link up ports in the three cities to the national highway network, which is helpful to the development of the Yangtze River Delta and the industrial belt in coastal regions of Wenzhou and Taizhou.

Today, three other sections of the province's entire coastal highway are being constructed and are planned to be completed by 2021, which means within two years, the highway going through the coastal Zhejiang will be fully completed.
