Academicians, referring to members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), as well as those from foreign academies, have been a valuable talent pool that is propelling the science and technology (S&T) development in Zhejiang.

Since the province initiated the project of academician workstations in 2008, it has successfully built 869 workstations and introduced 457 academicians by the end of this November, according to data announced at the project's 10th anniversary meeting in Yiwu on Dec 20. More than 5,200 professionals and experts have been invited to work in Zhejiang based at these stations.

"Without the intellectual support from academicians, Vulcan wouldn't have today's achievements, not to mention the future," said Wu Guoping, general manager of Ningbo Vulcan Group, a company specializing in mechanical seals who has realized rejuvenation by leveraging the knowledge of two members from CAE.
