The building site for the general aviation airport in Kaihua, a county in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, was recently approved by the East China Regional Administration of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), according to the local development and reform bureau.

The to-be-built airport will be open to the public and also allow flying by private individuals.

The first-stage project will establish a 800-meter runway, a comprehensive business building, stands for fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, a gas station and other supporting facilities.

In addition, helicopter pads are expected to be built in local important scenic spots and some local villages and towns, including Qianjiangyuan National Forest Park, Gutian Mountain, and Nanhua Mountain.

Developing the general aviation industry is of significant importance to Kaihua, which is renowned for its pleasant natural environment and numerous mountains, said Shen Qinghua, deputy director of the Kaihua development and reform bureau.

Shen added that the general aviation airport will fill in a gap in the general aviation industry in Kaihua and boost integration of the Zhejiang county into East China's tourism community.
