Wuzhen, an ancient water town in East China's Zhejiang province, is ready for the 5th World Internet Conference (WIC) on Nov 7-9 with smarter technologies and more thoughtful services.

The electricity supply is better ensured thanks to a new intelligent system which is capable of responding with breakdowns in a few seconds. "The system can send detailed information of emergencies to our workers extremely quickly," said Gao Xiaofei, deputy manager of the Tongxiang branch of State Grid. Currently, 966 staff members, 198 vehicles and 14 mobile power cars are in their positions for the conference.

The application of internet makes Wuzhen more orderly. A group of more than 3,700 "Wuzhen stewards", including ordinary residents, retirees, taxi drivers and shopkeepers are dispatched around the town to collect daily trifles and emergencies and report it to related government departments via a specially designed app. A social governance headquarters is working around the clock to sort out the submitted information and fix the problems as soon as possible.

This year, Wuzhen launched a few new hotels providing 400 more rooms for WIC guests, including 24 smart ones with intelligent services.

As 5G technology will be a hot topic at this year's WIC, the Zhejiang company of China Mobile initiated the comprehensive construction of 5G network in Wuzhen in advance. "During the conference, visitors will get a taste of the upcoming 5G era," said a staff member of China Mobile.

A group of 1,260 volunteers have been hired and trained ahead of the internet conference. This year, a platform with GPS data, three-dimensional data of venues and other service information is established to conduct real-time monitoring and analysis of voluntary services.
