East China's Zhejiang province experienced a tourist boom during the recent week-long National Day holiday, dubbed "Golden Week", as the number of tourists hit 57.43 million, up 10.3 percent from last year, according to data from the provincial tourism administration.

The boom generated total revenues of 56.55 billion yuan ($8.16 billion), a year-on-year increase of 12.2 percent, the official data unveiled.

An official from Zhejiang tourism bureau said that in addition to famous scenic areas, towns, resorts and building complexes featuring tourist attractions and shopping also enjoyed popularity among visitors. Rural areas where tourists were able to find peaceful havens away from the hustle and bustle of cities were favored by urban residents as well.

Through the data, the official said the development of tourism is reaching every corner of Zhejiang thanks to the upgraded facilities and services all around the province.

To attract more visitors, assorted activities boasting distinctive culture of Zhejiang were presented across the province throughout the holiday, including the 2018 Ningbo Nice International Carnival and boat wedding ceremonies in ancient towns.
