The Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) held a meeting on alumni investment on Feb 15, aiming to utilize the resources of alumni to kickstart investment and attract funds this year.

Representatives of universities such as Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, and Central China Normal University, along with alumni entrepreneurs, were invited to the meeting to discuss alumni investment initiatives.

"The establishment of large-scale alumni enterprise projects will drive more Hubei entrepreneurs back to their hometowns," said Jian Hong, secretary-general of the Wuhan University Alumni Entrepreneurs Association. "Xiaomi's smart home appliance factory is being built in OVC and is expected to attract Hubei entrepreneurs in the home appliance industry chain. Next, we will identify large alumni enterprises and proactively invite them to develop in OVC."

"This year, we will continue to host the Alumni Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in OVC and include more overseas alumni projects. We will also provide better services to alumni enterprises like HGC (Wuhan) Technology Co and LighTekton Co that have already set up operations in OVC," said Ma Guobin, deputy director of the Alumni Affairs and External Relations Office at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Fang Hua, vice general manager of HGC Technology, said, "Last year, with the new factory, our company generated over 100 million yuan in output. We look forward to further developing and expanding our presence in OVC."

An official from OVC stated that in the future, OVC will continue to use alumni resources to attract more investment and cooperate with universities, positioning OVC as a more attractive destination for alumni enterprises.
