The Science and Digital Library of Lingang – a digital library in the Lin-gang Special Area, located in East China's Shanghai city – is scheduled to open its doors for business in March.

The facility employs immersive digital experiences based on human science, history and culture, to provide readers with advanced services.

Instead of old-fashioned bookshelves, there are interactive devices for viewers to gain access to books via the cloud database, global academic literature and top universities. To top it off, guests can connect to international experts or even a virtual substitute program for renowned scientists who lived hundreds of years ago.

The library is also being promoted as the first metaverse library in the world, available 24/7. Digital retrieval serves are the characteristic functionality of the library, allowing readers to directly ask AI which book they are looking for.

What's more, the reading environment can be adjusted to their unique preferences, powered by VR/AR/MR, AI and big data technology.
