Weifang is turning the winter chill into economic warmth with a series of promotional activities aimed at boosting the local economy and increasing winter tourism.
The city launched its winter consumption season on Dec 12, introducing an ambitious plan that includes 70 new business scenarios and 60 major promotional events. These initiatives focus on key holiday periods, such as New Year's Day, Chinese New Year, and the Lantern Festival, and cover a wide range of sectors. From the "silver economy" and digital experiences to sports tourism and snow-based activities, the campaign offers something for every demographic.
Weifang's culture and tourism bureau has also introduced 80 specialized winter products across five core themes: snow adventures, hot spring relaxation, scenic winter tours, traditional New Year experiences, and educational study tours. The goal is to provide a multi-dimensional winter experience, moving beyond traditional sightseeing to offer immersive, interactive activities.
A key focus is expanding snow-based recreation, with professional-grade facilities at Qianzhou Tuoshan Mountain Ski Resort and Anqiu Qingyun Mountain Ski Resort attracting significant visitors. The city is also adding snow activities like snow tanks and snowmobiles at themed parks, ensuring fun for all ages.
In 2025, the city has already welcomed over 100 million visitors, with tourism revenue surpassing 100 billion yuan ($14.2 billion), marking an over 10 percent year-on-year increase. By innovating its winter offerings, Weifang is turning its "cold resources" into a "hot economy", further solidifying its reputation as a year-round destination in northern China.
