China's First International Arbitration Postdoctoral Recruitment

Announcement of Joint Postdoctoral Program of Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration & Peking University Law School

Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) was established in 1983 as the first arbitration institution in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao area. It pioneered in including overseas arbitrators in 1984, recognition and enforcement of Chinese arbitral awards outside Mainland China in accordance with the New York Convention in 1989, initiating statutory institution innovation and corporate governance mechanism centered on an internationalized board of directors in 2012, and merger of Chinese arbitration institutions in 2018. Arbitrators of SCIA cover 129 countries and regions, and parties to arbitration and conciliation cover 142 countries and regions. In 2024, SCIA accepted 14,518 arbitration cases with a disputed amount of RMB 142.267 billion. For consecutive years, it has been recognized by Global Arbitration Review (GAR) as a key international arbitration institution in the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2023, SCIA was approved to set up a post-doctoral innovation and practice base, which is the first international arbitration post-doctoral base in China, aiming at promoting the innovative development of international arbitration in China, and providing intellectual support for accelerating the construction of an international commercial arbitration center linking Hong Kong, Macao and the rest of the world. In the same year, SCIA and Peking University jointly constructed a national-level collaborative cultivation and innovation base for foreign-related rule of law talents. In this context, SCIA and Peking University Law School will jointly recruit post-doctoral student.

I. Position:

Postdoctoral Fellow (1)

II. Research Direction

Candidate can choose international commercial arbitration, securities arbitration, intellectual property arbitration, maritime arbitration or international investment arbitration as research direction.

III. Specialty Requirements

International arbitration, private international law, international economic law, civil procedure law and other specialties related to the above research direction.

IV. Duties and Responsibilities

(i)Undertake important research projects with the supervisor and complete research tasks during the postdoctoral period according to the research plan;

(ii)Carry out arbitration practice, base construction, international cooperation and academic exchanges;

(iii)Complete other tasks assigned.

V. Application Requirements

1.Graduating from prestigious university or scientific research institution and obtaining a doctoral degree, or having obtained a doctoral degree for no more than 2 years;

2.Be of good moral character and good physical and mental health, aged 35 years or below;

3.Guarantee full-time input for postdoctoral research work;

4.Priority will be given to those who have achieved remarkable accomplishment;

5.Excellent English ability.

3.Representative academic achievements (in Chinese or English, less than 3 copies).

4.Doctoral dissertation.

5.Preliminary research plan for postdoctoral period.

6.A copy of doctoral diploma or certificate of doctoral study.

7.Two letters of recommendation (including one from the doctoral supervisor)

VIII. Recruitment Procedure
