Shenzhen and Hong Kong Co-host ICCA 2024 Hong Kong Side Event

The Hong Kong Side Event of the XXVIth Congress of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA 2024) was held on May 8 at the South China International Arbitration Center (Hong Kong) (SCIAHK), located at the International Finance Center (IFC), Central, Hong Kong SAR.

The event was co-hosted by the SCIAHK, the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong (HKU LAW), and the International Dispute Resolution Academy (IDRA), with support from the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (UNCITRAL RCAP), the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), the European Chinese Arbitrators Association (ECAA), Haiwen & Partners, and Quadrant Chambers.

As a side event of the ICCA 2024 Hong Kong, the seminar focused on the theme of "Law, Peace and Harmonious Development". It invited professionals from the UK, France, Malaysia, Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, and other countries and regions to exchange ideas on topics such as the construction and collaborative practice of mechanisms for harmonious international dispute resolution, and the role of international arbitration in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. More than 80 experts, scholars, corporate executives, senior arbitrators and legal representatives from nearly 20 countries and regions participated in the seminar and networking reception.

The ICCA Congress, established in 1961 and known as the "Olympic Congress" of the international arbitration community, is one of the highest-level international arbitration conferences and the largest events in the field.

The ICCA 2024 Hong Kong, themed "International Arbitration: A Human Endeavour", was held from May 5 to 8, 2024, attracting over 1,400 professionals from more than 70 jurisdictions, marking the highest participation in its history.

The SCIA and the SCIAHK fully supported and participated in the congress as Diamond Sponsors, the highest level of sponsorship. In the future, SCIA and SCIAHK will also explore more pressing legal issues and challenges of market interest, continue to deepen collaboration with major international legal institutions and social organizations, link up with the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR to build a globally-oriented international commercial arbitration hub.
