Introduction of the Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao Arbitration & Mediation Alliance

The Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao Arbitration & Mediation Alliance (the "Alliance") is an arbitration and mediation cooperation platform initiated by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) in Qianhai, Shenzhen on December 7, 2013, and co-founded with 15 major commercial arbitration and mediation institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao as its members. By integrating the commercial arbitration and mediation resources in the GBA, the Alliance strengthens the business exchange and cooperation among commercial arbitration and mediation service institutions, so as to jointly improve the diversified dispute resolution services in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and provide the parties concerned with professional, efficient and harmonious dispute resolution services. Over the years, the Alliance has adhered to the principles of "equality, openness and cooperation", adopted "independent mediation + independent arbitration" as an innovative idea for cross-border commercial dispute resolution, and mediated cases from more than 100 countries and regions.

The Alliance is a pilot initiative for the development of the GBA, and is an integral part of the internationalization and law-based business environment of the GBA. The chairman of the Alliance shall be elected by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in turn for a term of two years. The first, second and third chairmen shall be successively held by the institutions from Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macao. As a standing vice-chairman institution, the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) is responsible for the daily operation of the Secretariat of the Alliance.
