On Nov 15, 2023, the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) and the Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC) jointly hosted the "International Arbitration Rules Innovations and Cross-Border Insolvency Dispute Resolution" seminar at the SCIA Tower in Qianhai, Shenzhen.
The seminar focused on two main themes: "Developments in International Arbitration: Reforms, Innovations, and Trends in Institutional Rules" and "The Role of Arbitration in Resolving Cross-Border Insolvency-Related Disputes".
About 70 participants, including arbitrators, mediators, corporate legal counsel, international lawyers, and university researchers from both domestic and international backgrounds, as well as representatives from enterprises, law firms, and arbitration institutions from Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and the Hong Kong SAR, attended discussions.
Their discussions focused on the latest developments in international arbitration rules in China, especially in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA) and Singapore, as well as the role and significance of arbitration in cross-border insolvency dispute resolution.
This event is another outcome of strengthened cooperation between the SCIA and SIAC. Since its establishment in 1983, the SCIA has fully utilized its unique functions in international arbitration, focusing on cross-border jurisdictional cases, application of transnational laws, enforcement of arbitral awards and sharing of cross-border resources.
The SCIA has continuously deepened cooperation and exchanges with world-renowned arbitration and mediation institutions such as the SIAC, promoting the alignment of rules, coordination of mechanisms, and exchange of talents.
In recent years, under the Singapore-China (Shenzhen) Smart City Cooperation Initiative (SCI), the two sides have intensified their collaboration by jointly organizing innovative and content-rich seminars on cross-border dispute resolution and providing internationalized court hearings and arbitration services remotely.
In the future, the SCIA will explore more legal hot topics and challenges of interest to enterprises and markets, continuously deepen exchanges and cooperation with important legal institutions and social groups in Singapore as well as the GBA, and jointly build an international commercial arbitration center with a global outlook.
Dr. Liu Xiaochun, president of the SCIA, delivered a welcoming speech.
Ms. Gloria Lim, CEO of SIAC, delivered a welcoming speech.
Mr. Huang Guoyong, director of International Cooperation and Development Department of the SCIA and director of the SCIA Jiangmen (Jiangmen Arbitration Commission), delivered closing remarks at the seminar.
