On August 25 2023, the "Midsummer Reception | SCIA Open Day: Corporate Session", organized by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) was held at the SCIA Tower in Qianhai, Shenzhen.

More than 70 legal professionals and lawyers from 48 enterprises and other institutions participated, covering various sectors such as capital markets, real estate, logistics and transportation, high-tech, international trade, tourism and catering.

The event highlighted the innovative strides made by the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in international arbitration, focusing on optimizing the business environment and serving corporate entities. It also reviewed SCIA's 40-year journey of development and innovation.

In addition, it served as a thematic session of the "SCIA Legal Counsel Seminar".

During the thematic sharing session, Fan Qijuan, Deputy General Counsel of the SCIA, discussed the design of arbitration clauses in corporate contracts, delving into topics such as the selection of dispute resolution methods, drafting contract clauses, and risk prevention measures.

Drawing from his extensive case handling experience, Lu Kai, Arbitrator of the SCIA, provided practical advice on key aspects of the arbitration proceedings, including institution selection, arbitrator appointment, drafting arbitration applications, and hearing preparation.

Xie Weimin, General Counsel of the SCIA, shared experiences on the collaborative application of arbitration and mediation, mediation techniques, along with innovative developments in SCIA's diversified dispute resolution mechanisms.

Jack Law, Partner of Hui Zhong Law Firm, shared practical insights into the enforcement of arbitration awards abroad with an example case where they successfully obtained recognition and enforcement of an SCIA award in the United States, offering actionable guidelines and suggestions.

The session concluded with a tour of the SCIA headquarters in Qianhai for the visiting corporate legal counsel and lawyers, showcasing the office facilities and hearing setups.

Shu Lingxiao, Assistant Legal Counsel from the International Cooperation and Development Department of the SCIA, introduced the innovative strides made by the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in international arbitration, as well as SCIA's development experience and latest advancements over the past forty years.
