Nineteen major projects involving a total investment of 27.6 billion yuan ($4.33 billion) were signed in the fourth quarter of the current year in the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area, or NETDA – located in the city of Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province – according to local media reports on Dec 12.
The NETDA has set a target to build itself a first-class development zone with the most competitive advantages in the Yangtze River Delta region, as well as nationwide. This will be characterized by the modernization of its leading industries – including the information technology, high-end intelligent equipment, biomedicine and new energy sectors.
In addition, the development area has also placed great importance on oversea investment. In the first three quarters this year, the actual paid-in foreign capital received by the NETDA reached $500 million, ranking it first among all the counties, county level cities and districts administered by the prefecture-level city of Nantong.
A total of 15 major projects worth more than 1 billion yuan ($156.9 million) each were signed in the first three quarters, involving total investment of 50 billion yuan. Currently, there are 14 major projects expected to be signed this year. The NETDA's plan in the fourth quarter was to push forward and complete 28 new projects out of 29 by the end of the year.
