The Koksan Group Green Polyester New Material Project, set to be built in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone in Rudong, Nantong, Jiangsu province, has entered its most critical period, with two production lines in the first phase set to begin operating in June.

With an investment of $710 million, the Turkiye-based group will build a super plant with an annual output of 2.2 million metric tons of green polyester new materials.

"The civil engineering work is 90 percent complete, and the project entered the equipment installation stage last month, which is now more than 20 percent complete," said Zhang Qiang, executive deputy general manager of Koksan (Nantong) New Materials.

After the completion of the Koksan project, it will be able to produce 2.2 million tons of bottle grade polyester chips each year. It is expected to achieve annual taxable sales of about 15 billion yuan ($2.16 billion) when fully operational, which is expected to bring about 500 jobs to the local area.

The project is the largest industrial project invested by Turkiye enterprises in China, which have become a new growth driver for Rudong's export-oriented economy.
