Rugao and Hai'an, two county-level cities in Nantong, Jiangsu province, have recently been recommended as high-speed rail tourism cities by tourism authorities in Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui.
Rugao made the lists of autumn-themed tours and health maintenance travel routes, while Hai'an was listed among river-themed tours and leisure travel routes.
The recommended route in Rugao connects Pingyuanchi village, Shuihui Garden, Longyou Lake, Jindao Ecological Park, and the Longyou Bay ecological landscape belt along Yangtze River.
The scenic areas along the route in Hai'an include the Xibo rural tourism zone, Longlive Town, Jianghuai Culture Park, and Zhongyang Globefish Co.

Rugao's tourism attractions are unique, mainly characterized by its three main calling cards – its status as a global longevity health resort, the capital of Chinese flower and tree bonsai, and a historical and cultural city in Jiangsu.
Hai'an has a brilliant culture. The rich Qingdun civilization, which dates back 6,000 years, has shaped Hai'an natives with the toughness of steel and the gentleness of water. The picturesque scenery of the Lixiahe region, the charming landscapes of the southern Yellow Sea, and the tranquil sandy soil have created a colorful culture in the city.
