On one side, dreams beckon; on the other, reality stands firm. Yet Wang Jingyi, born in Nantong in 1995, is determined to harmonize the two.
After graduating from the University of York in the United Kingdom, Wang moved to London, securing a position at a media agency. While excelling in her career, she also pursued her passion for filmmaking, crafting multiple award-winning short films.
Wang's talents extended beyond film. As a featured photographer, she took part in London Fashion Week and launched a collaborative business venture.
Through the New Studio app, Wang has uploaded 10 short films, ranging in length from 1 minute 23 seconds to 13 mins 43 secs. Her films span genres like science fiction, promotional, commercial, and drama, with the most popular film reaching 96,000 views.
At the 2024 Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival, Wang's short film To the Moon features an innovative mixed-reality virtual production that offered a fresh visual experience, earning her the Best AR Short Film award.
This was not her first moment in the spotlight. In 2022, she won the Best Editing Award at the International Documentary Festival, and in 2024, she received a Best Documentary nomination at the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival for her short film Rare Flavor.
"I strive to constantly explore new technologies and forms of expression, balancing tradition with modernity and blending Chinese cultural heritage with cutting-edge global concepts to give my work both national identity and global appeal," Wang noted.
"A life without challenges is hardly remarkable! I find satisfaction in overcoming obstacles," she added, emphasizing the promise and boundlessness of youth and dreams.
