Notes on Nantong, written by poet Jin Fei, was recently published by Beijing Publishing Group.
Each article of the book consists of writing in classical Chinese and metrical poetry of seven verses about local renowned figures, culture, and art.
The book also includes nearly 60 poems of four lines by the writer and calligraphy works by renowned artists.
Although Jin was not born in Nantong, he has formed a deep connection with the city by studying Zhang Jian (1853-1926), a renowned scholar, industrial magnate, educator, and philanthropist in Nantong.
Last year, Jin started publishing writings in classical Chinese and poetic works on Weibo, telling stories about Nantong culture. The works amassed over 500,000 clicks in just one week. They are the precursor to the Notes on Nantong.
Jin has published multiple biographies in the form of notes, but this is the first time that he has written about a city in such a form.
The book was published over a month ago, receiving unanimous praise from literary and art communities. Jin's clean writing style was especially well-received.
