Hai'an, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province, is accelerating its efforts to modernize traditional industries by promoting equipment upgrades for enterprises.

This year, the city plans to implement 200 technological transformation projects with a total investment exceeding 30 billion yuan ($4.14 billion) in the manufacturing sector.

One of the companies responding to the government's call for upgrades is Hai'an Nengda Electric Co Ltd. The company invests between 4 to 5 million yuan annually in equipment upgrades.

"We have introduced the country's first batch of copper batch laser cutting machines, replacing water jet cutting and leading the industry in production efficiency," said Chen Chunkai, the company's general manager.

Currently, among the supporting enterprises in the power transmission and distribution industry, Nengda Electric's products rank among the top three in national sales.

Similarly, Jiangsu Eagle-Globe Group invested over 20 million yuan last year to introduce new intelligent equipment, accelerating its industrial upgrade and improving production efficiency by 30 percent. In the first quarter of this year, seizing opportunities in the development of new energy vehicles and military industries, the company invested over 10 million yuan to introduce more than 20 sets of automated equipment with leading domestic technology.

Shen Chengxiu, the company's chairman, stated that the new equipment has increased production efficiency and product quality while reducing labor costs. From January to March, the company's output reached 370 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 39.97 percent.

Thanks to these equipment upgrades and increased production efficiency, Hai'an achieved an industrial sales invoice total of 58.698 billion yuan in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 14.54 percent.
