Far East Submarine Cable project underway in Rudong
Far East Submarine Cable Co Ltd's cable project in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province, is currently under construction.
Located in the Phase II industrial park of the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, the submarine cable project commenced construction in June 2022 and is expected to be operational by the end of this year.
The project aims to establish manufacturing capabilities for 2,000 kilometers of optical fiber composite submarine cables and specialty cables, 6,000 kilometers of high-performance specialty submarine optical cables, and 27,000 cable accessories, with an annual sales target of about 10 billion yuan ($1.39 billion).
As a significant investment for Far East Shareholding Company in the submarine cable sector, the project was funded by a total investment of 3 billion yuan and will occupy an area of 400 mu (26.67 hectares). Additionally, it is designated as a key construction project in Jiangsu for the year 2023.
Leveraging advanced technology, intelligent high-end production lines, and comprehensive professional services, the project aims to achieve single cable lengths of over 50 kilometers without joints, increase production efficiency by over 50 percent, and shorten delivery cycles by over 50 percent. This will further meet the growing demand for deep-sea and high-capacity offshore wind power development in China.
According to Xu Tao, director of the general manager's office at Far East Submarine Cable, the project will also include the construction of a 280-meter-long shore-side berth with a capacity of 50,000 metric tons and the investment in a 15,000-ton transport, laying, and maintenance vessel, aiming to establish the strongest submarine cable manufacturing and construction maintenance service capabilities in the country.
