A panel discussion focusing on "improving the natural environment and building a beautiful Nantong" was held during the fifth plenary session of the 12th Nantong Municipal Commission of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on Jan 19.
At the meeting, CPPCC members made a number of proposals related to improving water, air, and soil quality, protecting the Yangtze River, the scientific use of land, and optimizing the environment in residential areas.
Zhang Jun: Nantong should dedicate itself to the protection of the Yangtze River by relocating and upgrading relevant industries and boosting environmentally friendly development. It should strive to restore the river and stop harming it.
Shi Jian: Nantong should optimize its sewage system, improve its capacity for sewage treatment, promote environmentally friendly agricultural production, upgrade its breeding industry, strengthen the comprehensive management of rivers, and enhance its environmental monitoring capabilities.
Zhu Quanjun: Nantong boasts a dense river network and more efforts should be made to protect the city's long history of "water culture".
Wang Xia: Nantong should strengthen the management of its coastline and push forward with the sustainable industrial development of coastal areas.
Yu Jianhua: Top priority should be given to environmental protection when planning the use of land.
