Kaisha Island -- under the jurisdiction of Wujie town in the Tongzhou district of Nantong – is a lush and wonderful island on the Yangtze River that will soon be wowing throngs of excited tourists, according to local officials.

Covering an area of 3.56 square kilometers, it is one of the most well-preserved islands on the Yangtze River.

It has been approved by the Jiangsu provincial government to be built into a tourist resort during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan Period (2011-2015) and officials said it has already won national recognition for its rich tourism resources.

Sticking to a natural, environmentally-friendly and healthy development concept, a number of scenic spots with different functions -- including fishing, picking fruit and vegetables, sports and food -- have been built and are currently attracting about 500,000 tourists every year.

The island is also home to a golf club, a table tennis training center and a campground with more than 100 caravans.
