Three paintings by farmers from Xinghua city, in East China's Jiangsu province, were exhibited at the 2024 China (Nanjing) Farmer Painting Excellent Works Biennial Exhibition on Aug 20-30 in Nanjing city, capital of the province.
A total of 150 exhibited works were showcased in the exhibition.
The three works were from the Xinghua Duotian Farmer Painting Research Association, founded in 2011, whose activities center on organizing academic seminars, creating calligraphy and paintings, skills training and planning exhibitions and events.
The association is dedicated to the protection of farmer paintings and it has succeeded in getting local farmer painting declared municipal intangible cultural heritage item.
An excellent team of farmer painters has been assembled, ranging from senior citizens, to the middle-aged and younger generations, who will inherit and pass on their skills.
At present, the team includes 10 provincial local talent, one national rural craftsman, over 20 core creative members and more than 100 amateur enthusiasts, who have created over 1,000 works in total.
Since 1992, Xinghua's Duotian area has taken the lead in establishing the first Farmer Painting and Calligraphy Association in the city, with the development concept of deeply mining the cultural riches of local traditional folk painting and promoting the construction of a featured cultural town.
