A launch ceremony was held for the planned Semiconductor Advanced Ceramic Materials Research Institute of the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute, or JITRI, on Aug 11.
It will become the first research institute established by the research institute in the prefecture-level city of Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province. JITRI itself is based in Nanjing city in Jiangsu.
The new institute, which will settle in the Taixing High-tech Zone, will aim to become a leading international research and development center and industrial production hub for semiconductor ceramic materials.
It is being jointly established by the Taixing High-tech Zone, the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Taizhou Industrial Technology Research Institute and leading researcher Pan Wei and his team from Beijing's Tsinghua University.
Gao Jun, director of the Taizhou Industrial Technology Research Institute, said he hoped the new institute would conduct research and development into key technologies in the industry. This would pave the way for products with core competitiveness and promote the high-quality advancement of local industries, Gao added.
The new institute will rely on the State Key Laboratory of New Ceramics and Fine Crafts of Tsinghua University.
It boasts core products and patented technologies such as high thermal conductivity ceramic substrates and precision ceramic components for semiconductor equipment.
