Taixing city in East China's Jiangsu province has been promoting increases in the income of farmers through integrated industrial development.
In the first three quarters, the per capita disposable income of Taixing's rural residents hit 25,899 yuan ($3,574), a hefty gain of 6.7 percent.
The city's Guangling town is encouraging large-scale cultivation of edamame beans, with two planting seasons a year.
Thanks to fertile soil and suitable temperature, the quality of edamame beans produced in Guangling town is excellent. They are usually sold out of season and the price is attractive to villagers.
Elsewhere, Fenjie town is accelerating the construction of an e-commerce industrial park to advance the high-quality development of the rural e-commerce industry.
With an investment of 100 million yuan, it will erect a four-story e-commerce complex and two three-story agricultural and sideline product processing and warehousing factories.
These will house e-commerce incubation, e-commerce data, agricultural and sideline processing operations, as well as cold chain warehousing and logistics centers.
This year, there are 36 new agricultural and rural projects in Taixing, with 2.27 billion yuan in investment now completed, showing an annual investment completion rate of 84.3 percent.
The sales revenue generated by the city's 15 leading agricultural enterprises above the provincial level exceeded 7.24 billion yuan in the first half of the year, representing a healthy year-on-year increase of 5.19 percent.
