Taixing city moves to upgrade its rural roads

Taixing city in Jiangsu province is working hard to build good rural roads, regarded as being a critical path to fostering rural vitalization.

In one example, the road loop line running along Xuanbao town for a total length of 11 kilometers has strengthened the connection between nearby villages and towns. Five featured tourism routes have also been launched along the route, which have attracted the settlement of over 20 family farms.

The city believes that rural roads need to be built well – and that it is even more important to manage and protect them well.

The village access road for Fengdai village in the Yaowang sub-district, for example, has improved its traffic capacity after renovation, with camphor trees and purple locust trees planted on either side of the road as a bonus.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Taixing plans to upgrade 1,272 km of rural roads.

This year, the city has included rural road construction as an implementation project to improve people's livelihoods. It is investing 240 million yuan ($33 million) to upgrade 90 km of rural roads, renovate 17 dangerous bridges, renovate 15 km of county roads and carry out 50 km of safety protection projects.

Since 2021, there have been five rural roads in Taixing that have been recognized at the provincial level.
