The opening ceremony for the international 2024 Make Music Day in China took place in Huangqiao town – located in Taixing city, Jiangsu province – on June 21.
The special day originally began in France in 1982, eventually becoming renowned as an international, artistic, fashionable and popular music festival.
Since 2017, Huangqiao has been a permanent venue for the Make Music Day in China.
As the "capital of China's violin industry", it's now home to over 220 manufacturers engaged in violin, guitar and piano production, among other things. The annual output of violins and guitars there last year hit over 1 million and over 2 million instruments, respectively.
Huangqiao has also been dubbed the "Cremona of the East", a nod to the famous Italian city where the violin was born.
Since 2017, the event in Huangqiao has attracted over 20,800 performers who have played for an estimated 248,000 listeners.
To further expand its musical instrument industry, Huangqiao has invested over 100 million yuan ($13.77 million) in recent years to build a musical instrument cultural industry park.
This integrates industrial research and development, cultural creativity, art training, exhibitions and sales, and industrial tourism, among others.
Huangqiao has also built the first and only musical instrument platform nationwide that specializes in offering services to the public such as polishing and spraying violins.
