Online monitoring of an intelligent logistics park in Jingjiang, a county-level city in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, has indicated that a bulk carrier executed a coal transfer operation lasting nearly 20 hours on Dec 30. This operation was characterized by minimal coal handling and unloading losses, approaching zero, and it was conducted without any dust spillage.
This milestone signifies that the park's "near-zero carbon" green port has achieved significant results.
The park represents a joint investment by Shenzhen International Holdings and Jingjiang Port Group Co. It primarily handles coal, with an annual total volume of handling exceeding 8 million metric tons.
To mitigate pollution, it has allocated 330 million yuan ($45.02 million) to create a comprehensive, enclosed, and intelligent "green channel" for coal operations.
The coal is set to be delivered by ship unloading machinery into a 600-meter enclosed conveyor belt corridor directly leading to a fully enclosed storage bin. Intelligent equipment such as thermal imaging trackers and dust concentration monitors monitor pollutants throughout the process.
This intelligent logistics park features an overall investment of 2.28 billion yuan, with 330 million yuan allocated to green development. "If this amount were invested in handling equipment, it could boost the park's annual handling capacity by approximately 4.5 million tons," said Liang Tao, the person in charge of the park.
"However, compared to traditional ports, we can save approximately 6,100 tons of standard coal annually, and more importantly, we have prevented any pollution from reaching the Yangtze River and its surrounding ecological environment," added Liang.
